The inflatable Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 has earned a reputation as one of the most versatile portable fishing boats on the market, especially for anglers looking for a lightweight, stable craft that performs well in both rivers and inshore saltwater. After extended use (including filming a full episode of Road Trip Angler and fishing the flats around Wrightsville Beach) the FishSkiff 16 has continued to hold up to demanding conditions, heavy gear, and multi-day trips.

This updated review covers long-term durability, new rigging upgrades, and how the boat performs when powered by both a 5hp Honda Outboard and a Torqeedo Travel 903 electric motor.

Build & Durability: A Rigid Drop-Stitch Platform That Holds Up Over Time

The FishSkiff 16 uses drop-stitch construction in both the hull and the floor, giving the inflatable skiff an impressively rigid feel during acceleration, poling, and sight-fishing. Even after extended use in saltwater, the boat’s inflatable components have shown no structural issues, leaks, or softening.

The only long-term wear noted comes from seat hardware sourced off-the-shelf, which is prone to rust in saltwater environments, a common issue for steel swivel mounts, regardless of brand. This is not a Sea Eagle manufacturing defect, but anglers who fish primarily in saltwater may want to upgrade to a corrosion-resistant swivel system.

Power Options: Gas and Electric

One of the biggest advantages of the FishSkiff 16 is its flexibility in propulsion. The boat performs well with both:

  • Honda 5hp Outboard: Delivers strong upriver performance and excellent speed for longer runs.
  • Torqeedo Travel 903 electric motor: Provides quiet operation, ideal for flats and inshore scenarios where stealth is important. While slower than gas, it offers impressive range and serves as both a primary and trolling motor.

The transom handles both configurations easily, and the skiff remains stable even when fully loaded with gear.

Fishing Performance: Built for Two Anglers

While the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 is rated for three passengers, two anglers is the ideal configuration for comfort, deck space, and visibility. With two adults onboard, the craft remains stable while standing, casting, and moving around the deck.

  • Sight fishing: Elevated standing positions (added through custom rigging) significantly improve visibility on the flats.
  • Stability: Excellent, even in chop.
  • Maneuverability: Responsive whether powered by gas, electric, or a push pole.

For anglers targeting species like redfish, sheepshead, or river bass, the FishSkiff 16 functions much like a lightweight poling skiff.

Rigging Upgrades: Navigation, Storage, and Casting Platforms

A major appeal of the FishSkiff 16 is how customizable the platform is. Recent upgrades include a wide range of RAILBLAZA accessories, all mounted using StarPort HD bases.

Bow & Deck Additions

  • RAILBLAZA NaviPack: Red and green bow lights and a 360° stern light (both battery-powered) mount via removable StarPorts, essential for early-morning or after-dark sessions.
  • Elevated casting platform: An aluminum plate paired with a teak cutting board creates a raised sight-fishing deck. Even an extra 6 to 7 inches of height makes a noticeable difference on the flats.
  • Rod holders, cup holders & accessory mounts: Upgraded to StarPort HD systems for durability and modularity.

Electronics

The skiff is rigged for an Lowrance Elite FS, which mounts easily to added track and StarPort mounts.

While this setup does not currently use a transducer, adding one is simple due to multiple mounting points on the transom and deck.

Mid-Boat & Seating Modifications

The standard rear seat has been replaced with an Orion 35 cooler, providing:

  • A second elevated standing platform
  • Integrated side tracks for cup holders or tool storage
  • Additional room for food, drinks, and cold storage on longer trips

Paddle and push-pole clips keep accessories secure and accessible without obstructing fly lines or footwork.

Transom & Stern Rigging

The Torqeedo motor mounts cleanly on the transom and provides excellent low-noise operation for stalking redfish, drum, and other shallow-water targets.

On-Water Experience

Across rivers, flats, and inshore channels, the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 continues to deliver solid performance:

  • Stable under load
  • Quiet in shallow water
  • Highly maneuverable when poling
  • Capable of handling two anglers plus gear comfortably
  • Easy to launch without a ramp

The drop-stitch hull gives the boat a rigid, fiberglass skiff feel, while still being lightweight enough to transport and store like an inflatable.

Who Is the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 For?

This boat is an excellent match for anglers who need:

  • A portable fishing skiff that can be stored in a garage or transported in a truck or SUV
  • A stable, customizable platform for inshore saltwater and river fishing
  • Dual power options for both long runs and stealth-focused shallow-water approaches
  • A craft that handles sight fishing, poling, and multi-rig setups

With its mix of portability, durability, and fishability, the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 offers impressive value as a compact inshore boat.

I'm on Day 2 of my Okefenokee Swamp trip and I'm excited to show you the behind the scenes of exactly how I rig my Sea Eagle FishSUP™ 1210—an inflatable fishing SUP that’s become a go-to for navigating tight, tree-covered waterways.

This isn’t just any paddle board—it’s a highly functional inflatable fishing SUP, and with the right setup, it can rival even larger fishing vessels in terms of customization and fishability.

The Core Rigging Setup for Fishing

I started by outfitting the Sea Eagle FishSUP 1210 with a few essential pieces of gear. My paddle of choice? The Bending Branches Navigator, a solid performer when you’re paddling deep into places motors can’t reach. For landing fish, I rely on a YakAttack landing net, conveniently mounted thanks to the factory-installed gear mounts on the Sea Eagle.

Inflatable Fishing SUP

Using YakAttack bases, I add various accessories to dial in his personal setup. This includes the fish finder and GPS unit, key for staying oriented in the twisting channels of the swamp.

Smart Rod Storage for Swamp Conditions

One standout feature to add on any inflatable fishing boat are the Side Stage Rod Racks. These low-profile rod holders are perfect for keeping rods ready to cast without sticking up into low-hanging trees—crucial in overgrown areas like the Okefenokee. It keeps everything sleek, safe, and within arm’s reach.

Custom Storage and Comforts for Inflatable Fishing SUP

I used a YakAttack cup holder (because hydration matters). I customized one of YakAttack’s gear boxes to sit standalone on top of his BlackPak. That extra box? It holds all his soft plastics—simple, accessible, and efficient.

Powered by Torqeedo

To cover more water, I added a Torqeedo 903 electric motor to the FishSUP 1210, giving this inflatable fishing boat serious range without sacrificing its stealthy, shallow-draft profile. It’s the perfect power boost for long days on the water.

Tackle

As for tackle, I bring my go-tos—like frogs and chatterbaits—because they’re ideal for drawing strikes in thick cover. With this setup, my inflatable fishing SUP becomes a fully capable, swamp-worthy rig that lets me fish confidently in tight, overgrown water without sacrificing performance or access.

Inflatable Fishing Boat Ready for Action

I headed deep into the Okefenokee swamp with this set up. Read more about my time: kayak fishing in the Okefenokee Swamp or my full review of the Sea Eagle FishSUP™ 1210. I hope this article helps you with how to rig an inflatable SUP with the right accessories for fishing. This setup proves that you don’t always need a big boat to take on big adventures and land serious fish.

If you’re an angler who’s tired of compromising between portability, stability, and fishability, the Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP might be your dream catch. Built for serious anglers, this inflatable paddle board blends the best of kayak, canoe, and SUP fishing. Tested on lakes, rivers, and marshes—here’s how it performs and rigs for the value-minded adventurer.

Inflatable, But Built for Battle

Don’t let the word “inflatable” fool you— the Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP is rugged. Built from 1100 Decitex reinforced drop-stitch material, this board inflates to 15 PSI for an incredibly rigid feel underfoot.

It carries up to 450lbs, it can easily handle your weight plus a full fishing load out—tackle boxes, battery, electric motor, and even a furry fishing companion.

Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP

Setup & Portability: Trunk to Water in Under 15 Minutes

One of the standout features of the Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP is just how easy it is to transport and rig. It rolls up into a large duffle bag that fits easily in the trunk of your car. I had mine inflated and water-ready in under 10 minutes using the included hand pump (an electric pump makes this even faster).

Optional accessories like the swivel seat and electric motor mount bolt on quickly using pre-installed D-rings.

Fishing Features That Actually Matter

  • 360° swivel seat with high-back support: Sit and fish all day without back pain.
  • Built-in fish ruler on the deck: Quickly measure your catch without digging through your gear.
  • Integrated Accessory Bases: Mount rod holders, sonar, or action cameras without drilling or mods.
  • Removable motor mount: Add an electric motor (up to 55 lbs thrust) to turn it into a stealthy, hands-free fishing machine.
fishing features on FS1210

The deck is covered in EVA foam, which is both non-slip and easy on the feet. Plus, the shape of the board—wider in the back and tapered toward the front—offers both stability and glide. I was able to stand and sight-fish in chop without ever feeling tippy.

Performance on the Water

Paddling performance is surprisingly good for such a stable platform. Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP tracks well and glides efficiently whether you're standing with a SUP paddle or sitting and paddling kayak-style. The triple fin setup helps with tracking, and I found the board easy to maneuver even in tighter coves and weedy shallows.

Sea Eagle’s FS1210 FishSUP, Jameson standing fishing

With the Torqeedo Travel motor mounted, I hit speeds over 5mph in open water. This is plenty fast for moving between structure or drifting along a shoreline. Even loaded down with gear, the FS1210 felt nimble and responsive.

Is the Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP Worth It?

The FS1210 FishSUP might seem pricey at first, but it replaces a boat, kayak, and SUP. There is no trailer, storage fees, or fuel needed. The base price for the FS1210 starts at $999, with costs varying based on the package you choose.

It packs small, sets up fast, and reaches spots even tiny jon boats can’t. For solo anglers or those short on space, it’s a true game-changer in versatility and fishability.

Is This The Right Boat for You?

Whether you're casting topwater frogs into lily pads or drifting live bait along a shoreline, the Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP gives you stealth, stability, and freedom. It's a premium fishing platform that folds up and fits in your trunk—but performs like a purpose-built fishing craft on the water.

For anglers who want to go farther, fish harder, and skip the boat ramp line, the FS1210 is a great choice. Check out the review of the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski.

There are places that just demand your respect—and the Okefenokee Swamp is one of them. When you paddle into these dark, tannin-stained waters, you quickly realize you’re not at the top of the food chain. It’s wild. It’s ancient. And it’s absolutely full of life.

On this trip, I linked up with my good buddy Chris Funk—also known as “the feral one”—a man who knows this swamp like the back of his hand. Between the gators, thick brush, and unexpected fish bites, it was the kind of kayak fishing trip that keeps you on your toes… and checking over your shoulder.

First Impressions of the Swamp

Before we even got our lines in the water, the Okefenokee swamp was already putting on a show. Logs turned out to be gators. Big ones. Chris and I were dodging reptiles left and right, trying to keep our boats—and ourselves—intact.

Okefenokee swamp kayak fishing

We launched into waters that were higher than normal, with ramps submerged and gators lounging in the usual parking spots. It’s wild, raw, and demands your full attention.

The Kayak Fishing Gear and Setup

This trip was the maiden voyage for a new kayak setup, the Sea Eagle FishSup FS1210. I’d already tested the ePropulsion motor, and this was my chance to see how it handled in a real fishing environment. The next day, I planned to swap it out for the Torqeedo Travel Ultralight to do a side-by-side comparison.

Target Species: Bowfin, Jacks, and the Occasional Bass

Our main target was bowfin—a toothy, aggressive species that thrives in this kind of swampy habitat. They’re tough fighters and a ton of fun on the line. But Chris, never one to shy away from excitement, was also chasing chain pickerel and keeping his eyes open for the occasional largemouth bass.

Bowfin are perfect for this type of Okefenokee Swamp water: ambush predators lurking in the shadows, waiting for a spinnerbait or chatterbait to come too close. I had multiple hookups—some solid, some short-lived—and a few heartbreakers right at the boat. That’s just part of the game.

Close Calls and Big Laughs

There’s something different about fishing in a place where the logs move. We joked around a lot, but make no mistake—there were moments of real tension. One gator in particular seemed a little too curious, watching closely as we worked a deep hole near a confluence where the swamp pours into a channel.

It turns out that’s a prime feeding spot—not just for gators, but for fish too. That intersection of moving water and structure produced some of the best bites of the trip. Spinnerbaits slow-rolled across the bottom were money. I was throwing a chatterbait and using Seaguar Smackdown 30 lb braid with a 20 lb fluorocarbon leader, tied up with a double uni knot. It handled the abrasion and power of these fish just fine.

The History and Haunting Beauty of the Okefenokee

Between casts, Chris shared stories of the swamp’s past—about old railroad towns, massive virgin cypress forests, and the doomed attempts to drain it. Places like Billy’s Island, once home to settlers and even a movie theater, are now ghost towns swallowed by the swamp. You feel the weight of history out here, in the silence and the still water.

It’s the kind of place where nature always wins. And that’s exactly why we come.

Okefenokee Fishing Adventure

The Okefenokee Swamp isn’t just another fishing destination—it’s an experience. It’s about the fish, sure, but also about the place, the people, and the wild moments you don’t expect. Like the baby gator that swam right up to Chris. Or the fish that absolutely wrecked my setup just as I was about to net it. Or the one that got away… three times.

If you’re thinking about fishing here, go with someone who knows the swamp. Respect the wildlife. Bring your A-game. And don’t forget to soak in every second of the adventure—because places like this are becoming rarer by the day.

Hey everyone, Jameson Redding here from Road Trip Angler. Today, I'm going to be reviewing the Sea Eagle 437ps Paddleski. This is a versatile inflatable catamaran boat that can be used for fishing, paddling, and motoring.

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski paddle

I've been using the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski on a few trips now, and I've been really impressed with it. It's very stable, even when standing on one side. It's also relatively fast, with a top speed of around 12 mph paired with the 5hp Honda outboard. And it's maneuverable and easy to paddle.

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski review by RTA host Jameson Redding

I also like the fact that the boat is comfortable to sit in, however one thing I will be changing is the seat hight in the rear especially. In addition to the comfort, I think it would relatively easy to rig up for fishing. It comes with a couple of mounting location where rod holders can be added and you could glue bases on in other locations for addional rigging.

Overall, I think the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski is a great value for the price. It's a versatile and affordable inflatable boat that can be used for a variety of activities. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get out on the water and have some fun.

Key Features of the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski

Versatility

The Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski is a versatile inflatable boat. It can be used for paddling, motoring, and fishing. I was able to paddle the boat around during the review with my daughter and found the boat easy to move around by paddle. The Paddleski could be used for a day of fun on the water or set up to be a great inflatable fishing boat.

Stability

It is a really stable platform for standing. My daughter and I both felt comfortable standing up while I paddled around.

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski stability

The catamaran design with two widely spaced inflatable tubes provides excellent stability, even when standing on one side.

Speed

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski speed

With a 5 horsepower Honda motor, the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski can reach speeds of around 12-13 mph. The way you rig the boat for fishing and the way you distribute the weight will impact the speed, so it is always important to properly distribute the weight on small watercraft to get the most out of whatever you decide to power it with.

Maneuverability

The boat is very maneuverable, both with the motor and when paddling. Inflatable tend to sit on the water vs in the water like other boats do. This allows them to move easily with less effort from the paddler or under power.

Comfort of the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski comfort

The seats are very comfortable, but they are a bit low to the deck. With the addition of some seat post extensions it will be very comfortable. This will also make getting up and down much easier if you plan to stand and fish. The padding on the deck adds to that comfort when standing as well.

Fishability

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski fishability

The Paddleski is fishable. It doesn't have any built-in rod holders. However, it has Scotty mounts that can be used to attach rod holders and other accessories. The boat is stable while standing for sight casting. With the versatility of being able to power or paddle the boat efficiently, you are able to get to an area quick and then powerdown

Rigging the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski

The Paddleski is a blank slate when it comes to rigging. You can add your own rod holders, fish finders, and other accessories to customize it to your needs. The motor mount for the gas motor is easy to assemble with turn handles. You can easily use an electric motor like the Torqeedo Travel Ultralight on the PaddleSki.

Who Is the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski Best Suited For?

Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski, who is this for

The Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski is a great choice for anyone who is looking for a versatile and affordable inflatable boat. It's perfect for recreational use, such as paddling, fishing, and camping. It's also a good choice for families with young children, as the boat is very stable and easy to maneuver.

Hey there, fishing fans! It’s Jameson Redding from Road Trip Angler. Today, I’m taking you on a journey through one of our latest adventures right in the heart of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, where my good buddy Brooks “Big Bites” Beatty and I went head-to-head with some of the toughest fish in these waters—Sheepshead! We are taking the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16, so if you are interested in learning more about this inflatable boat, check out the review.

The Start of an Epic Day

crabs used to catch sheepshead

Wrightsville Beach is one of those places that just sticks with you. The coastal town is not only gorgeous but offers a variety of fishing opportunities. For this trip, we decided to target Sheepshead, a fish known for both its fight and its flavor. The day started with a quick stop to gather some live bait—mud crabs to be exact. These little guys might be tiny, but they pack a mean pinch, and trust me, you don’t want to be on the wrong end of one!

sheepshead fishing in wrightsville beach

Brooks and I ventured out in the Sea Eagle Fish Skiff 16, an incredibly versatile and stable inflatable that allowed us to get super shallow and access areas most boats can't reach. It's lightweight, easy to store, and can be powered by a small electric motor. It was the perfect setup for the day ahead.

Sheepshead Tactics

Fishing for Sheepshead is a game of precision and patience. These fish are often found around docks and pilings, where they feed on crustaceans like crabs. The technique involves “pitching,” where you swing your bait out and let it drop under the docks. It's similar to flipping a jig while bass fishing, but with the added challenge of navigating through the tight quarters around the dock structures.

sheepshead fishing

We were using 30 lb fluorocarbon leaders, which are essential when you’re fighting these brutes around barnacle-covered pilings. And let me tell you, when they bite, you’ve got to be quick to set the hook and even quicker to get them out of there before they break you off!

The Battle Begins

As the tide dropped, revealing the barnacle-encrusted pilings, we knew we were in the right spot. It didn’t take long before we started getting bites. Brooks was on fire, hooking into some of the biggest Sheepshead I’ve ever seen! The man truly lives up to his nickname, “Big Bites.”

sheepshead fishing in north carolina

While I might have been catching the smaller fish, it was hard not to be impressed watching Brooks battle with these giants. The first fish he landed was an absolute stud, and my heart was racing just watching him fight it. These Sheepshead are no joke—they hit hard, fight dirty, and have a knack for getting into the roughest structure they can find.

A Friendly Rivalry

Now, I’m not going to lie—there’s a bit of a competitive streak in me, especially when it comes to fishing. But if anyone’s going to outfish me, I’m glad it’s my good friend Brooks. Still, I couldn't help but want to land one of those big ones myself. But as the day wore on, it became clear that Brooks was the star of the show.

Sheepshead fishing north carolina

There’s something special about sharing these moments with friends, even if they’re the ones catching all the big fish! At the end of the day, it's all about the experience—the laughter, the excitement, and the joy of being out on the water.

A Lesson in Safety

One of the things that really stood out during this trip was the importance of wearing a PFD (Personal Flotation Device). In the kayak community, it’s a no-brainer, but in the boating world, you don’t see it as much. We were wearing NRS inflatables, which are lightweight and comfortable. It’s crucial to stay safe out there, and I encourage everyone to make wearing a PFD a habit.

Wrapping Up the Season

This episode marked the end of our season, and what a way to close it out! Brooks had to head back to work, but not before leaving us with some fresh fish for dinner. My family was coming into town, and we were all set to enjoy a feast, thanks to Brooks’ hard work. Even though I didn’t land the big one, just being out there and soaking in the beauty of Wrightsville Beach was enough for me.

So, here’s to another fantastic season of Road Trip Angler. If you enjoyed this adventure, be sure to subscribe, stay safe out there, and always wear your life jacket. Until next time, tight lines and happy fishing!

Hello, fellow paddlers! Ken Whiting here with Paddle TV. In today's blog, we're diving deep into the world of inflatable kayaks, specifically focusing on Sea Eagle inflatable kayaks. Having tested each model extensively over the past few years, I'm excited to share my insights and help you choose the best inflatable kayak for your needs.

First though, I want to give a special shout-out to the American Canoe Association (ACA). They've been instrumental in promoting paddling safety and education. The ACA created a free, on-line paddling safety course that I believe everyone should take the time to do. You can check it out here.

Why Choose an Inflatable Kayak?

First, let's discuss why you might opt for an inflatable kayak. The reasons are straightforward:

  • Portability: If you lack the means to transport or store a full-size kayak, an inflatable kayak is a fantastic alternative. They fit in a bag, are light and easy to handle compared to their hardshell counterparts, and can even be checked onto an airplane, making them ideal for travel.
  • Ease of Setup: Most inflatable kayaks can be set up in under 10 minutes with minimal effort. You can further simply their setup with an electric pump.
  • Safety: Inflatable kayaks are inherently buoyant. Even if you capsize, they won't sink, and many models are self-bailing. Most quality inflatable kayaks are also made with 2 or more separate air chambers, so that if you get a puncture, the entire kayak won't deflate.
  • Comfort: The inflatable nature makes them soft and comfortable, and quality inflatable kayaks will have comfortable seats that provide appropriate back support.
  • Affordability: There are inflatable kayaks for almost every budget.

Considerations for Choosing an Inflatable Kayak

When choosing an inflatable kayak, consider the following factors:

  • Intended Use: Determine whether you'll use it on flat water, mild rough water, or whitewater. Some kayaks are versatile, while others are specialized.
  • Durability: Look for kayaks with robust construction and a good warranty.
  • Performance: While they're more expensive, inflatable kayaks made with drop-stitch construction can be pumped up to be much firmer, which makes the kayak more rigid and perform better.
  • Capacity: Ensure the kayak can accommodate the weight of the paddler(s) and gear they are intended for.
  • Budget: Find a kayak that fits your budget without compromising on essential features.

Inflatable Kayaks Comparison

Hey there, everyone! Jameson Redding here with Road Trip Angler. I'm diving deep into my review of the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 inflatable boat. With over a decade of kayak fishing under my belt, I've tried and tested many watercraft, but this one has truly caught my attention. Sea Eagle, a family business since 1968, has a solid reputation for crafting high-quality inflatable boats and kayaks. So, let's see what makes the FishSkiff 16 stand out.

sea eagle fishskiff 16 review

Specifications and Initial Impressions

The FishSkiff 16 measures 16 feet in length and 4 feet 6 inches in width, with a hull weight of just 84 pounds. For such a lightweight boat, it's remarkably spacious and versatile. Starting at $2,199, this boat is rated for up to three people and can handle up to a 9.9 horsepower gas engine. I've been testing it with both an electric Torqeedo motor and a 5 horsepower Honda motor to explore different propulsion options.

sea eagle fishskiff 16 carry bag

One of the standout features is the boat's construction. It consists of four inflatable chambers: two side chambers, the floor, and an inflatable keel. The side chambers and floor can be inflated to a maximum of 15 PSI, thanks to the drop-stitch technology, which makes them incredibly rigid. The inflatable keel, added this year, improves performance by raising the bow and enhancing maneuverability.

Features and Packages

The FishSkiff 16 comes in various packages, starting from the solo package at $2,199 to more feature-rich options that go up to $5,440. My package, priced at around $4,399, included a 5 horsepower Honda motor, a bimini top, a solar charger for the Torqeedo, and four Scotty rod holders. The boat also comes with an extendable paddle, ideal for maneuvering when you're not using the motor.

I added a few YakAttack accessories post-purchase, such as aluminum gear tracks for additional rigging options. The boat's aluminum seat frames come pre-drilled for mounting bases, making customization easy.

On the Water: Performance and Stability

Now, let's talk about performance. Stability is often the first question I get about any boat. At 4 feet 6 inches wide, with a flat bottom and inflatable gunnels, the FishSkiff 16 is incredibly stable. I felt comfortable walking around, even with two kids and my dog onboard. We could easily trade places between the fishing and driving positions without any issues.

sea eagle fishskiff 16 review with Torqeedo electric motor

Speed is another crucial factor. With a 9.9 horsepower motor, you can expect speeds of up to 20-21 mph. With my 5 horsepower Honda, I reached around 11-12 mph, even with two adults on board. The Torqeedo motor maintained speeds of about 5 mph, which is what I anticipated.

Durability and Maneuverability

Durability is always a concern with inflatable boats, but Sea Eagle has built this one tough. The drop-stitch construction and thick PVC material make it resilient against punctures. I have never had an issue with hooks puncturing any inflatable craft I have tested and this one was no diffrent. The added rubber rub rail around the sides and keel offers extra protection against abrasions from docks or stumps as well. The only true enemy to most inflatables is sharp pointy fish fins, but the Fish Skiff comes with an easy to use patch kit so if you ever do experience a puncture, repairing the boat could even be done while on the water.

Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 review of seats
Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 swivel seats

In terms of maneuverability, the FishSkiff 16 excels. Its inflatable nature allows it to sit on top of the water, making it easy to turn, even under power. The forward-positioned motor and sponsons at the back improve performance, reducing squat and enhancing speed.

Storage and Comfort

Storage in inflatable boats can be a challenge due to the lack of internal space, but the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 offers plenty of D-rings and mounting options for gear. The boat’s seats are comfortable, with cushions on both the back and bottom. The ability to swivel the seats adds to the overall comfort, making it easier to fish from various angles. The EVA foam pad on the deck provides extra grip and reduces heat, making it comfortable to stand on, even in hot weather.

sea eagle fishskiff 16 review by Road Trip Angler

Fishability and Value

Fishability is where this boat shines. It offers ample space to move around, and the stability makes it a great platform for fishing. The boat can get incredibly shallow, allowing access to areas other boats can't reach. The various motorization options and seating configurations make it versatile for different fishing styles and conditions.

YakAttack and Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16

Regarding value, the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 offers an impressive range of features at a competitive price. Whether you’re a solo angler or like to fish with a buddy, this boat provides a lot of bang for your buck. It’s versatile, lightweight, and capable of handling various water conditions.

Who Is the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 Inflatable Boat For?

If you're looking for a boat to take your entire family out, this might not be the best fit. However, if you want a reliable, versatile platform for solo or duo fishing trips, the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 inflatable boat is a fantastic option. It's perfect for shallow waters, easy to transport, and offers a range of customization options.

This Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 review showcases how an inflatable fishing boat delivers on performance, stability, and durability. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting into the sport, this boat is worth considering. Thanks for reading, and as always, tight lines and happy fishing!

Hi everyone, Ken Whiting here with yet another in-depth, unbiased gear review. I'm testing the Sea Eagle EZLite10 Inflatable Kayak. Before we hit the water, let's pump it up and dive into the details.

Initial Impressions and Specifications

The Sea Eagle EZLite10 Inflatable Kayak retails for $899. This package includes a backpack, a pump, a paddle, and a repair kit. The kayak measures 10 feet in length, 32 inches in width, and weighs only 28 pounds with the seat. It has a capacity of 325 pounds.

The kayak features two primary air chambers: the floor and the sides. It boasts a safety layer on the bottom for added protection and includes Sea Eagle's new FlexBrace 2 foot pegs. With a removable fin, five carry handles, bow and stern bungees, and a unique V-shaped hull, the EZLite10 is made using drop-stitch construction with sun and saltwater-resistant material. The backpack is large and reinforced with quality nylon, ensuring everything packs away easily, and can handle being lugged around.

Sea Eagle EasyLight 10 Inflatable Kayak specifications

First Impressions

At first glance, I was impressed with the Sea Eagle EZLite10 Inflatable Kayak. The drop-stitch construction makes it very rigid, contributing greatly to its performance. Despite weighing only 28 pounds, it feels substantial and well-built. The V-shaped hull promises better speed and tracking, and I was eager to see how it would perform on the water.

Sea Eagle EasyLight 10 Inflatable Kayak PSI

Portability

Portability is a significant factor for any inflatable kayak, and the EZLite10 scores high marks here. Weighing just 28 pounds with the seat and around 32 pounds with the backpack, pump, and accessories, it's incredibly easy to transport. The quality backpack offers ample space for everything, making packing up a breeze. With five grab handles, you can carry it like a suitcase, from the ends, or even pinch carry it from the sides.

Sea Eagle EasyLight 10 Inflatable Kayak weight and portability

Performance

For a 10-foot kayak, the EZLite10 performs admirably. While longer kayaks typically offer higher performance, this kayak strikes a balance between maneuverability and speed. The V-shaped hull and removable fin ensure it tracks well and glides in a straight line. It's not the fastest kayak, but it offers good speed for its size.

Stability

With a width of 32 inches, the EZlite10 is stable. It's a recreational kayak that offers peace of mind for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike. While it may not feel as stable as some other 32-inch wide kayaks, it still provides ample stability for most paddling conditions.

Sea Eagle EasyLight 10 Inflatable Kayak stability

Comfort

Comfort is crucial for enjoyable paddling, and the Sea EZLite10 Inflatable Kayak delivers. The $950 package includes a high-back seat, which offers excellent support for paddling and lounging. The foot pegs are top quality and easy to install and adjust, providing added power while paddling. However, the low walls of the kayak don't provide the same leg support that large tube inflatable kayaks like the Sea Eagle 300x offer. Adding some foam under the knee could enhance your comfort during long paddles.

Sea Eagle EasyLight 10 Inflatable Kayak seat and comfort

Suitability

The EZLite10 kayak is ideal for flat or mildly rough water conditions. It's not designed for rough waters or large waves, but it can handle calm ocean days and bigger lakes. Its inflatable nature ensures it remains buoyant even if swamped, though draining water willed to be done manually, as the EZLite10 is not self-bailing. This kayak is best suited for recreational paddling on flat water or gentle currents.

who is the Sea Eagle EasyLight 10 Inflatable Kayak for?

Value

Sea Eagle kayaks are known for their value, and the EZLite10 is no exception. For under $1,000, you get a full drop-stitch construction kayak with foot pegs and a performance seat. It's lightweight, portable, and performs well, making it a fantastic option for those seeking a high-quality inflatable kayak without breaking the bank.

Conclusion

In summary, the Sea Eagle EZLite10 kayak receives two thumbs up. It's not for everyone, but if you're looking for a lightweight, portable kayak for flat water adventures, this might be the perfect choice. I want to share some camping gear for river trips that, while not absolutely essential, can make a big difference on your next river trip. I recently completed a seven-day adventure down the Dumoine River in Quebec with a group of friends. This river is a world-renowned canoe-tripping destination, but we tackled it with a raft and five inflatable kayaks. The raft allowed us to bring some luxurious items, but we also wanted to run more of the whitewater without worrying about swamping, which you often have to deal with when using a canoe.

Here’s a rundown of the gear that stood out on that trip—gear that’s applicable not just to a luxurious expedition, but to any river adventure. Before I continue, I'd like to take a moment to thank our Sponsor of this article, the ACA, please remember to wear your lifejacket when enjoying the water. They have a fantastic online course for anyone thinking about getting into paddle sports. Check out the link for the free course!

Essential Safety Gear: Communication Device

When you're out in the backcountry, a reliable communication device is crucial, especially if there's no cell service. I’ve been using the Zoleo for a few years now. It costs around $200 with a $20 monthly fee for the satellite network. The Zoleo allows for two-way messaging, so you can stay in touch with folks back home and even receive messages from them. It also has an SOS feature, though thankfully, we didn't need to use it. We primarily used it for daily weather reports, which helped us plan whether to put a fly on the tent or sleep under the stars without worrying about unexpected rain.

Zoleo Satellite Communication

Handy Repair Kit

A well-stocked repair kit is a must for any overnight paddling trip. Our kit included various types of rope, Tear-Aid for vinyl repairs, patches, a sleeping pad repair kit, AquaSeal seam sealer, duct tape, zip ties, and a multipurpose knife. This kit came in handy for quick fixes on the go, ensuring that no one had to sleep on the hard ground or worry about a torn dry bag. A good repair kit is crucial piece of camping gear for river trips.

Gravity Water Filter

We used the Platypus GravityWorks water filter, which made filtering water a breeze. You simply fill the dirty water bag at the river, hang it up, and let gravity do the work. The water passes through a primary filter and then a carbon filter, ensuring it’s clean and taste-free. This system is easy to clean in the field and eliminates the need for manual pumping. It costs around $150 and is definitely worth it.

Platypus GravityWorks water filter

BruTrek Base Camp French Press

Coffee is essential for any multi-day paddling trip. The BruTrek Base Camp French Press is perfect for a group, holding 48 ounces and making enough coffee for everyone. It’s insulated to keep coffee hot for those who sleep in, and it has a plunger system that keeps grounds out of your coffee. It’s not the lightest option, but at $70, it’s a great investment for coffee lovers.

BruTrek Coffee Press for Travel

Online Paddling Safety Course

I want to remind you about the free online paddling safety course from the ACA. It's a great resource, whether you're new to paddling or need a refresher. It covers important topics like kayak fishing, nautical rules of the road, and paddling rescues. Check the link in the description box below to access these valuable modules.

First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is essential camping gear for river trips. On our trip, everyone brought their own small Adventure Medical Kits. These kits have all the basics you might need. We also designated one person to bring larger items like a SAM splint, ensuring we were prepared for any situation.

Watertight Medical Kit for River Trips

Reliable Saw

For firewood, we used the Silky Zubat – a preferred saw among arborists. This saw cuts wood quickly and efficiently, making it an invaluable tool for any camping trip. It costs around $100 but is worth its weight in gold.

Silky Zubat

Bug Repellent and Bug Tent

Bugs can be a major nuisance, especially in late May when black flies and mosquitoes are out in full force. We each brought a full-size can of bug repellent and used them up. I also tried a new product, Great Outdoors Bug Cream. Additionally, we brought a 30-pound bug tent, which provided a great space for cooking and hanging out, especially in the evenings when the bugs were worst. If you can manage the extra weight, a bug tent is a fantastic addition to any trip.

Barrel Organizers

Keeping food organized in barrels can be challenging, but Recreational Barrel Works' barrel organizers made a huge difference. These cylindrical organizers fit perfectly in the barrels, making it easy to keep everything in its place. We used insulated versions for frozen food and uninsulated ones for other items. They simplified the process of finding and accessing our supplies, turning the barrels from bottomless pits into well-organized storage.

Recreational Barrel Works

Collapsible Fishing Rod

The Dumoine River is known for its excellent fishing. We all brought collapsible fishing rods from Bass Pro, which were perfect for a whitewater trip. These rods are easy to store and protect, thanks to their telescoping design and rod tip protectors. They allowed us to enjoy some fishing without worrying about damaging or losing our gear.

Big Basin Water Container from NRS

Lastly, the Big Basin Bag water container from NRS was a game-changer for dishwashing. Instead of washing dishes in cold water by the river, we could stand comfortably and wash in hot water right at our kitchen setup. It’s a simple item but made a significant difference on the trip.

NRS Water Basin was key for doing dishes on the river trip

There’s a lot more gear I could talk about, but these items were the standout performers on our Dumoine River trip. I have many more trips planned this year, where I’ll be testing even more gear. I’ll be sure to share my findings with you, so stay tuned for more paddling tips, gear reviews, and paddling adventures. Don't forget to take the free online paddling safety course from the ACA.

If you found this article useful, consider adding some of these items to your gear list for your next outdoor adventure. And don't forget to subscribe to Paddle TV for more tips and reviews. See you soon!
