To cover more water, I added a Torqeedo 903 electric motor to the FishSUP 1210, giving this inflatable fishing boat serious range without sacrificing its stealthy, shallow-draft profile. It’s the perfect power boost for long days on the water.

Tackle

As for tackle, I bring my go-tos—like frogs and chatterbaits—because they’re ideal for drawing strikes in thick cover. With this setup, my inflatable fishing SUP becomes a fully capable, swamp-worthy rig that lets me fish confidently in tight, overgrown water without sacrificing performance or access.

The deck is covered in EVA foam, which is both non-slip and easy on the feet. Plus, the shape of the board—wider in the back and tapered toward the front—offers both stability and glide. I was able to stand and sight-fish in chop without ever feeling tippy.

Performance on the Water

Paddling performance is surprisingly good for such a stable platform. Sea Eagle FS1210 FishSUP tracks well and glides efficiently whether you're standing with a SUP paddle or sitting and paddling kayak-style. The triple fin setup helps with tracking, and I found the board easy to maneuver even in tighter coves and weedy shallows.

With the Torqeedo Travel motor mounted, I hit speeds over 5mph in open water. This is plenty fast for moving between structure or drifting along a shoreline. Even loaded down with gear, the FS1210 felt nimble and responsive.

I've been using the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski on a few trips now, and I've been really impressed with it. It's very stable, even when standing on one side. It's also relatively fast, with a top speed of around 12 mph paired with the 5hp Honda outboard. And it's maneuverable and easy to paddle.

I also like the fact that the boat is comfortable to sit in, however one thing I will be changing is the seat hight in the rear especially. In addition to the comfort, I think it would relatively easy to rig up for fishing. It comes with a couple of mounting location where rod holders can be added and you could glue bases on in other locations for addional rigging.

Overall, I think the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski is a great value for the price. It's a versatile and affordable inflatable boat that can be used for a variety of activities. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get out on the water and have some fun.

I was able to paddle the boat around during the review with my daughter and found the boat easy to move around by paddle. Stability

It is a really stable platform for standing. My daughter and I both felt comfortable standing up while I paddled around.

The catamaran design with two widely spaced inflatable tubes provides excellent stability, even when standing on one side.

Speed

With a 5 horsepower Honda motor, the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski can reach speeds of around 12-13 mph. The way you rig the boat for fishing and the way you distribute the weight will impact the speed, so it is always important to properly distribute the weight on small watercraft to get the most out of whatever you decide to power it with.

Maneuverability

The boat is very maneuverable, both with the motor and when paddling. Inflatable tend to sit on the water vs in the water like other boats do. This allows them to move easily with less effort from the paddler or under power.

The seats are very comfortable, but they are a bit low to the deck. With the addition of some seat post extensions it will be very comfortable. This will also make getting up and down much easier if you plan to stand and fish. The padding on the deck adds to that comfort when standing as well.

Fishability

The Paddleski is fishable. It doesn't have any built-in rod holders. However, it has Scotty mounts that can be used to attach rod holders and other accessories. The boat is stable while standing for sight casting. With the versatility of being able to power or paddle the boat efficiently, you are able to get to an area quick and then powerdown

Rigging the Sea Eagle 437PS Paddleski

The Paddleski is a blank slate when it comes to rigging. You can add your own rod holders, fish finders, and other accessories to customize it to your needs. The motor mount for the gas motor is easy to assemble with turn handles. You can easily use an electric motor like the Torqeedo Travel Ultralight on the PaddleSki.

The FishSkiff 16 measures 16 feet in length and 4 feet 6 inches in width, with a hull weight of just 84 pounds. For such a lightweight boat, it's remarkably spacious and versatile. Starting at $2,199, this boat is rated for up to three people and can handle up to a 9.9 horsepower gas engine. I've been testing it with both an electric Torqeedo motor and a 5 horsepower Honda motor to explore different propulsion options.

One of the standout features is the boat's construction. It consists of four inflatable chambers: two side chambers, the floor, and an inflatable keel. The side chambers and floor can be inflated to a maximum of 15 PSI, thanks to the drop-stitch technology, which makes them incredibly rigid. The inflatable keel, added this year, improves performance by raising the bow and enhancing maneuverability.

Features and Packages

The FishSkiff 16 comes in various packages, starting from the solo package at $2,199 to more feature-rich options that go up to $5,440. My package, priced at around $4,399, included a 5 horsepower Honda motor, a bimini top, a solar charger for the Torqeedo, and four Scotty rod holders. The boat also comes with an extendable paddle, ideal for maneuvering when you're not using the motor.

I added a few YakAttack accessories post-purchase, such as aluminum gear tracks for additional rigging options. The boat's aluminum seat frames come pre-drilled for mounting bases, making customization easy.

On the Water: Performance and Stability

Now, let's talk about performance. Stability is often the first question I get about any boat. At 4 feet 6 inches wide, with a flat bottom and inflatable gunnels, the FishSkiff 16 is incredibly stable. I felt comfortable walking around, even with two kids and my dog onboard. We could easily trade places between the fishing and driving positions without any issues.

Speed is another crucial factor. With a 9.9 horsepower motor, you can expect speeds of up to 20-21 mph. With my 5 horsepower Honda, I reached around 11-12 mph, even with two adults on board. The Torqeedo motor maintained speeds of about 5 mph, which is what I anticipated.

Durability and Maneuverability

Durability is always a concern with inflatable boats, but Sea Eagle has built this one tough. The drop-stitch construction and thick PVC material make it resilient against punctures. I have never had an issue with hooks puncturing any inflatable craft I have tested and this one was no diffrent. The added rubber rub rail around the sides and keel offers extra protection against abrasions from docks or stumps as well. The only true enemy to most inflatables is sharp pointy fish fins, but the Fish Skiff comes with an easy to use patch kit so if you ever do experience a puncture, repairing the boat could even be done while on the water.

In terms of maneuverability, the FishSkiff 16 excels. Its inflatable nature allows it to sit on top of the water, making it easy to turn, even under power. The forward-positioned motor and sponsons at the back improve performance, reducing squat and enhancing speed.

Storage and Comfort

Storage in inflatable boats can be a challenge due to the lack of internal space, but the Sea Eagle FishSkiff 16 offers plenty of D-rings and mounting options for gear. The boat’s seats are comfortable, with cushions on both the back and bottom. The ability to swivel the seats adds to the overall comfort, making it easier to fish from various angles. The EVA foam pad on the deck provides extra grip and reduces heat, making it comfortable to stand on, even in hot weather.

Weighing just 28 pounds with the seat and around 32 pounds with the backpack, pump, and accessories, it's incredibly easy to transport. The quality backpack offers ample space for everything, making packing up a breeze. With five grab handles, you can carry it like a suitcase, from the ends, or even pinch carry it from the sides.

Performance

For a 10-foot kayak, the EZLite10 performs admirably. While longer kayaks typically offer higher performance, this kayak strikes a balance between maneuverability and speed. The V-shaped hull and removable fin ensure it tracks well and glides in a straight line. It's not the fastest kayak, but it offers good speed for its size.

Stability

With a width of 32 inches, the EZlite10 is stable. It's a recreational kayak that offers peace of mind for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike. While it may not feel as stable as some other 32-inch wide kayaks, it still provides ample stability for most paddling conditions.

Comfort

Comfort is crucial for enjoyable paddling, and the Sea EZLite10 Inflatable Kayak delivers. The $950 package includes a high-back seat, which offers excellent support for paddling and lounging. The foot pegs are top quality and easy to install and adjust, providing added power while paddling. However, the low walls of the kayak don't provide the same leg support that large tube inflatable kayaks like the Sea Eagle 300x offer. Adding some foam under the knee could enhance your comfort during long paddles.

The EZLite10 kayak is ideal for flat or mildly rough water conditions. It's not designed for rough waters or large waves, but it can handle calm ocean days and bigger lakes. Its inflatable nature ensures it remains buoyant even if swamped, though draining water willed to be done manually, as the EZLite10 is not self-bailing. This kayak is best suited for recreational paddling on flat water or gentle currents.

The 300X features:

• 16 floor drains to make it self-bailing
• A reinforced fabric floor

• 18 D rings to secure the seat and gear
• A drop-stitch floor
• Three air chambers for safety
• A three-year warranty.

Portability

The Sea Eagle 300X is only 31 pounds. This is very lightweight for a kayak of this length. Hard shell kayaks of about the same size would usually be about 10 to 20 pounds heavier than this. The Sea Eagle 300X is, therefore, comparatively much lighter. 

The Sea Eagle 300X is relatively small and has only three air chambers. This means that it does not take very long to set up. The two side chambers only need to be pumped up to around 3 psi, so they are quick to inflate. It has a drop stitch floor, which can be pumped up further. This makes the kayak more rigid and performs better, but does take a little more time to pump up. As I regularly use inflatable kayaks, I use an electric pump. This saves a lot of time and effort. However, it still only takes 5-10 minutes to fully inflate the 300X using the provided pump.

Stability

The Sea Eagle 300X is 39 inches wide, which is very wide for a kayak. Something that comes with width is stability, so, unsurprisingly, the 300X is a very stable kayak because of its width. On flat water, it would be very difficult to flip the kayak – you are more likely to fall out of it than to actually flip it. So, the Sea Eagle 300X gets high marks for stability. 

Performance

Flat Water

No 10-foot kayak is designed for speed, so the 300X, like any other 10-foot kayak, is not designed to go fast. Its width further emphasizes that this kayak was designed first and foremost for stability – speed was more of an afterthought. 

Having said that, the Sea Eagle 300X has a drop stitch floor that pumps up to 10 psi. This means it has quite some rigidity and does not feel like you are paddling in an amoeba. It has a good, hard feel to it. 

When you have the large, removable fin attached to the boat, it is surprising how well the 300X tracks. It does a really good job, even when you stop paddling, at gliding in a straight line. Once you remove the fin, the boat turns every time you put the paddle in the water. The kayak spins out, which is to be expected with a flat-bottomed and wide kayak such as the 300X. 

White Water

Think of the 300X as the four-wheel drive of kayaks: very stable. It was very stable in white water. The 300X is designed to get through waves and rapids very easily – even for someone who does not have a lot of experience in rough water. It is confidence-inspiring and stable. 

Sea Eagle claims the 300X can be used in up to class four white water. However, I personally think that this is a bit of a stretch. I would not take the 300X into grade four white water. This is not because of the durability of the kayak, but because the 300X does not have the correct outfitting for it. Namely, the 300X does not have foot braces or thigh hooks to keep you attached to, and in good control of the boat. Without these parts, I am just sitting on top of the boat, cannot easily edge it, and am likely to fall off the kayak. It is comparable to wearing flip-flops instead of wearing a well-fitted trail shoe. You just don’t have the control in the 300X that is needed for class four white water. 

That said, I would absolutely use the Sea Eagle 300X in white water up to class three. This, of course, depends on your skill level. 

Durability

Sea Eagle has been making inflatable kayaks for 56 years. They have really figured things out and know what they are doing. This is why they have three-year warranties on all of their inflatable kayaks. 

That being said, the Explorer series is designed for doing pretty much anything, including up to class four white water. I would trust the durability of this kayak in white water. That said, like with any inflatable kayak, you cannot abuse it. You can, however, definitely use it with confidence. 

The Sea Eagle 300X has a reinforced fabric floor. This means that a sharp object would have to go through two layers of fabric – one of which is a drop stitch layer. You would really have to hit something very sharp for it to manage that. I have no questions about the durability of a Sea Eagle inflatable kayak. 

Value

Sea Eagle, in general, provides pretty exceptional value. The 300X packages start at $800 (USD) and go up to around $1000 (USD). The price difference comes from the different upgrades you can get. For example, you can upgrade both the seat and the paddles. 

Regardless, $800 (USD) for a well-made and durable kayak, such as the 300X, is a good deal. Especially when the kayak comes with a paddle, pump, bag, and repair kit. In warm weather, all you need to start using the 300X is to buy a PFD (personal flotation device). I think the Sea Eagle 300X is exceptional value for the cost, but only if it is the type of kayak you are looking for. 

Who is the Sea Eagle 300X For?

Simply put, the 300X is not a kayak that you can cover a lot of ground with on flat water. Instead, you get this kayak if you want a stable, durable, and versatile kayak. This is the sort of inflatable kayak you buy if you want to use it for a variety of purposes: flat water, fishing, kayak camping, running rapids, etc. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced kayaker, you can have a lot of fun in the Sea Eagle 300X for a long time without feeling like you need to upgrade.

The 385 FastTrack Angler is made of a more durable and 29% thicker hull material than the non-angler version of the 385. It has:

• Customized front and rear spray skirts with built-in rod tool hooks and lure holders
• Non-slip EVA padding built into the floor for added protection
• A fish ruler
• Four carry handles
• Two drain valves
• A drop stitch floor for rigidity
• A large removable fin
• A drop stitch keel for tracking purposes.
• 18 D rings to secure seats and gear.

The 385 FTA comes with a nylon carry bag, a repair kit, and seats and paddles depending on the package you purchase.

Portability

This is a 44 LBS kayak, which is a little heavier than other inflatable kayaks, but much lighter than the vast majority of fishing kayaks. Some fishing kayaks even weigh as much as 140 LBS and require trailers. So, for a fishing kayak, this gets top marks.

When folded into the bag it is substantial. You cannot carry this a long way alone, but it is fairly easy to carry a short distance by yourself. One of the great things about the bag is that it has a lot of extra space and folds around the kayak. That means you can easily get the kayak back into the bag without doing a perfect folding job.

Comfort

The side tubes are not drop stitch, so only pump up to around 3 psi, making them feel soft and comfortable. There is a nice EVA deck pad on the floor which adds comfort too.

I used the deluxe seat that comes with it. This is a raised platform that keeps your butt off the ground and nice and dry. It is also nicely cushioned and was comfortable to sit on for the entire five or six hours of fishing I did when testing the kayak.

The only drawback to the 385 FTA is that it doesn’t have any sort of foot pegs or footrest system, so when you are doing a lot of paddling it is less comfortable. But this is designed to be used for fishing and not paddling so it isn’t too much of a problem.

The Sea Eagle 385 FTA comes with a range of different options. You can choose to order a 360 swivel seat. This is a $200 (USD) upgrade and provides a comfortable, padded swivel seat that sits much higher out of the water. It also comes with rod mount holders that let you hold your rods right beside you. The swivel seat puts you in a better fishing position, but the deluxe seat is a better paddling seat.

Stability

Stability is a key characteristic of a fishing kayak. Feeling unstable can be a real problem when fishing. And, more importantly, if you were to flip a fishing kayak you could potentially lose a lot of expensive fishing gear. So fishing kayaks are designed to be as stable as possible.

The Sea Eagle 385 Fast Track Angler is very stable. It is 36” wide which is fairly wide, so this boat is as stable as you would imagine it. You are more likely to fall off the kayak than to actually flip it!

The 385 FTA is stable enough to stand and fish in too. Standing is a great position for fishing. The only downside is that due to the size of the inflatable tubes, you only have a narrow space to stand in so your feet need to be fairly close together. The closer your feet together the less stable you are. So it can feel less stable to stand in than an equivalent hard-shell fishing kayak.

Performance

Performance is where the Sea Eagle 385 FTA gets interesting. It is a 36” wide and 12’ 6” wide kayak, so it is not designed for speed. It is designed for stability.

The bottom of the 385 FTA is flat which makes it harder for the kayak to track in the water, and much easier for the kayak to spin. But to combat this problem Sea Eagle has done two things. The first is that they added the fin at the stern as this helps the kayak to go straight. They have also created an inflatable bow keel to turn the flat inflatable hull into a carving and tracking hull. And this has a significant impact on the paddling performance, helping it track better than an equivalent inflatable kayak.

So whilst it may not be a high performance kayak, the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack Angler is definitely a significant upgrade from other, equivalent, inflatable kayaks without the inflatable keel.

Features

Fishing kayaks are often rich in features. But the biggest feature that they often have is the ability to customize and add whatever features you want. And the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack Angler is designed to do that quite well.

It has unique, integrated rod holders. They are not as quick or convenient as other rod holders I have tried, but they still work well. There are cutouts for lures and bungees on the bow and stern to attach gear.

The EVA pad on the floor is a nice touch for comfort, but also to protect the kayak against hooks. I didn’t have any concerns about having lures hanging about in the kayak, despite it being an inflatable kayak. The different options for seats, for example, the swivel seat, are really nice features that allow you to choose the level to which you want the seat to be set up for fishing.

The number of D rings, handles, and attachment points is very useful. You might not use all the D rings but it lets you attach and customize the kayak to make it suit your needs completely.

Value

Is the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack Angler worth it? Well, this kayak retails for about $1200 (USD) in a set that comes with everything you need to hit the water including the kayak, a deluxe seat, a repair kit, a carry bag, a paddle, and a pump. That is a good deal.

You can get cheaper fishing kayaks. But are fishing kayaks this portable and durable? I don’t know of one. The 385 FTA is designed for fishing. It is reinforced, super durable, and very portable. You are unlikely to find something of this quality or caliber as cheap as this.

So the question really comes down to you. Is a portable fishing kayak of this quality something that you really want?

Who is The Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack Angler for?

There is a slightly cheaper Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack inflatable kayak that is not designed for fishing which is slightly cheaper. It is something I would still fish from but would have to be more careful.

But, if you are an angler, having rod holders, extra durable side tubes, extra expanse, and weight is definitely a worthwhile upgrade. So this kayak is specifically for anglers. If you are not an angler, you would be better off going for the non-angler version. But this inflatable fishing kayak is an excellent deal for any anglers out there who want an inflatable kayak that is portable and easy to store.

So the key is to identify which starter boats are going to lead to happy converts. This is my main mission with today's review, and ties into one of my primary missions with PaddleTV and Hazeadventure (i.e. getting more people to enjoy the outdoors). Let's unpack the Sea Eagle 330 inflatable kayak, which is one of the best-selling gateway kayaks on the market, and talk about how it fared during my latest paddle test. 

ABOUT THE SEA EAGLE 330 KAYAK

Price: $250 – $450 USD (Depending on the package)

Length: 11′ 2″

Width: 34″

Weight: 26 LBS (12 KG)

Capacity: 500 LBS (227 KG)

Best Use:  All Conditions

The SE-330 has 5, one-way valves, a sun & salt-water-resistant PVC material, an I-beam construction floor, two integrated skegs, a drain valve, a combination of seats and paddles (depending on the package that you go with), a carry bag, a repair kit, and a foot pump. It also has a 3-year manufacturer defect warranty. 

How do you inflate the Sea Eagle 330? 

I often recommend that anyone with an inflatable kayak invest in an electric pump. It usually saves a lot of time and energy. But in the case of the Sea Eagle 330, the provided foot pump was all I needed for an easy inflation. Sea Eagle also includes a small pressure chart that when applied to the appropriate spot on the kayak, gives a helpful reading based on the stretch of the exterior.

In many cases, unless you own an high-end pump that has a built-in pressure gauge, it can be a guessing game as to whether or not you've reached the boat's recommended firmness. So this is a simple, and thoughtful bonus. In case you run into any issues, the SE-330 has a scannable QR code on it, which as long as you have cell service, will take you to an instructional video.

After the first run-through, I could tell this kayak would be a breeze to set up going forward. This would also be a good place to mention that upon deflation, the kayak and the pump easily fit into a drawstring carry case. So high marks for the inflation procedure and overall portability. 

Sea Eagle 330 stability

The Sea Eagle 330 is so stable that anyone could hop in this kayak and feel comfortable. It isn't entirely flip-proof, but it would take an impressive effort to do so. There are some inflatable kayaks out there that offer even more stability, but as I always point out, there are trade-offs between performance and stability. I would give this kayak an 8 out of 10 in terms of stability, but that last 20% leaves the door open for better paddling efficiency (which we'll talk about next).

Sea Eagle 330 kayak performance

This kayak exceeded my expectations in terms of paddling performance. Typically, an 11-foot-long inflatable kayak, that uses PVC rather than drop-stitch construction, doesn't move all that well on the water. But that smidge of stability that the SE-330 sacrifices really makes a difference when it comes to covering distance. It doesn't feel overly laborious, like a “floating dock” (as I like to call some kayaks) would. This kayak also stays on course reasonably well (thanks to the integrated skegs and I-beam floor), and is highly maneuverable when using sweep strokes.

Sea Eagle 330 comfort 

Another common trade off with kayaks is between performance and comfort. The softness of the Sea Eagle 330 does slow it down a bit, compared to if it was made with drop-stitch construction and inflated to a higher PSI, or particularly compared to hard-shell kayaks, but it also provides a cushy ride.

The sit-on-top design also gave me lots of room to lounge around. And I must say, I was impressed with the seat. It not only had a plush base for the tush, but the back support also felt great. There are more advanced seats available, that's for sure, but for a low-cost, inflatable kayak, this was a good one. 

Sore ankles without foot support

The one con worth noting is that the angle at which the lateral air tubes taper really reduces the usable space in the bow. This, in turn, caused my feet to compress together and then point to compensate. By the end of my hour paddle test, my ankles were starting to get a bit sore. Although, the ever-present option to take a break and kick my legs up over the sides did help to alleviate this discomfort. If the SE-330 had a bit more space, and equally as importantly, some foot support, then this would be an even comfier, better-performing kayak. 

Sea Eagle 330 kayak length

The Sea Eagle 330 is 11-feet, 2-inches long. It is billboarded as a one or two person kayak, with the upgraded package providing an extra seat and paddle. But because the air tubes taper at the ends of the boat, I would recommend that only smaller couples, or parent-child duos use this as a tandem kayak. Two adults would be pretty crammed in this thing, even if they dip under the 500 pound capacity. Instead, I'd recommend taller pairs check out the Sea Eagle 370, which is a bigger version of this boat. 

Sea Eagle durability

Though it's difficult to get a sense of a kayak's durability from a single paddle test, I can still tell you a few things about the Sea Eagle 330's lifespan. For starters, Sea Eagle has been making popular inflatable kayaks for 50 years. They know what they're doing! For instance, the SE-330 is made with a thick, sun/saltwater-resistant PVC material (33 mil Polykrylar K80 PVC), which strikes a nice balance between cost and resiliency.

Though this isn't quite as strong of material as the reinforced polyester fabric used in their higher-end models, Sea Eagle obviously still has confidence in their craftsmanship, as is evidenced by the 3-year manufacturer defect warranty. Just make sure to do your part by avoiding sharp rocks, too rough of waters (I'd recommend Class 1 & 2 waters for the SE-330), and keep the boat clean, dry, and free of needless sun exposure when not in use. If you look after this kayak, I could see it lasting a long time. 

Is the Sea Eagle 330 worth it?

If you're someone looking for a solid, general-use, portable kayak, then the Sea Eagle 330 is one of the best all-around values in town. For between $250 – $450 USD (the exact price depends on the options you choose), you get a fun boat with everything you need to start paddling (minus the life jacket!) — mostly as a single, but with the option to get another seat and go as a tight tandem.

Ultimately, I do see the SE-330 as a “gateway” kayak. It will get you out there on the water, let you develop your skills, and hopefully instill a love for paddling that will make you want to eventually upgrade crafts. So on that note, if you do have a more lenient budget, and you have a feeling that you're going to want to grow as a paddler over the years, then you may want to consider starting out with one of Sea Eagle's more advanced options, or one of the other high-quality inflatable kayaks that I've reviewed on Hazeadventure.

The Sea Eagle 380x is made to be ridden by one or two persons. Now you can do what others only dream of with our most versatile inflatable kayak series ever. [It's] capable of handling any type of adventure: fishing, touring, camping, adventuring, whitewater, but never boring. 

Sounds pretty good, right? Well, now it's my job to put those claims to the test, let you know how it all stacks up, and figure out if it's worth the money. As always, let's start with the specs, and then I'll give you an in-depth review from my experience paddling this sucker on the Nantahala River in North Carolina. 

ABOUT THE SEA EAGLE 380X KAYAK

Inflatable kayaks are durable and versatile

The 380x kayak has a drop-stitch floor, which can be pumped up to 10 psi – nice and firm! It also has 24 D-rings to secure seats and other gear. Next, it is self-bailing, with 16 drains that can be sealed. Plus, it has a removable skeg for better tracking. Finally, if you opt for the pro package, you'll get 2 paddles, 2 seats, a carry bag, repair kit, and a pump. Further add-on options include: a sailing kit, a rowing kit, and an electric motor kit. 

How do you set up the inflatable Sea Eagle 380x kayak?

This kayak is very easy to pump up. There are simply three chambers to inflate. Since the floor is made with drop-stitch construction, it chugs up to a solid 10 psi, while the outer chambers come in a little softer. The whole thing can be done with a hand pump, but I think an electric pump is the way to go. Save the energy for paddling! 

In terms of portability, there are carry handles at the bow and stern, but unfortunately nothing on the sides. This means it's an easy carry for two people, but a little trickier if you're riding solo. Either way, for a solid and versatile kayak, 40 LBS is a reasonable, portable weight. Once you've inflated the boat, anchored the seat, and decided if you want the drains open or closed (depending on your conditions), you're ready to rock. 

How stable is the Sea Eagle 380x kayak?

The wide base makes the 380x inherently stable. You'd have to make a conscious effort to flip this thing. No matter the conditions I took it in, stability was the name of the game for this kayak. If interested, you can even stand in this boat, which is helpful for fishing or just stretching your legs.

How does the Sea Eagle 380x kayak perform? 

Since I took the 380x in a variety of conditions, I experienced a range in its performance. Let's start with whitewater. A 12.5-foot kayak is a little too long for ideal river-running. But it's not trying to be an ideal whitewater boat, it's trying to be an all-around boat. Though it lacked the specificity for the job, I still had a blast riding the rapids. It didn't catch eddies or surf waves as well as a proper whitewater kayak, but it still managed these feats and instilled a lot of confidence while doing so. 

In terms of flatwater, the extra length suddenly became an asset, while the width turned into a slight hindrance. The 380x is certainly not a fast boat, but again, it's not meant to shine in that particular area, it's meant to be well-rounded. Though it takes a bit of a grunt to get it going, this boat does hold a reasonable pace once you're there. 

The removable skeg helped it track well, and at the same time, it still turned easily –  that's a nice mix. I would therefore say that the 380x has good, but not great, performance on both whitewater and flatwater. 

Is the Sea Eagle 380x kayak comfortable? 

The ample room in the cockpit makes this kayak quite comfortable for one person. It would be more of a squeeze to go tandem, but certainly nothing to worry about. 

I went with the upgraded seat from the pro package, which ended up being a nice addition. The elevated cushion kept my butt off the hard floor. In whitewater, you get wet no matter what, but in flatwater, this extra height made a real difference. 

I found the high-back seat provided support more so when I was relaxing versus paddling. The only things missing, in my opinion, are foot braces. These tend to improve both comfort and performance. Thankfully, in this particular boat, your legs can press against the sides for added comfort. However, foot braces would still add leverage, and therefore paddling power, which would help boost the top-end speed a bit. 

Sea Eagle 380x kayak features

I like that the 380x pro package comes with two seats and two paddles, giving the option for both tandem and solo adventures right out of the gate. 

The self-draining capability also came into play while I was on the whitewater. Since waves were constantly splashing into the boat, I opened the 16 self-draining scupper plugs to allow the water to flow right back out. I then closed them while paddling around on the flatwater, as nothing was coming over the sides of the kayak that needed draining. In those conditions, water would just needlessly leak in through the open holes. So that's my hot tip if you're fiddling around with this boat in the near future. 

I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent-sized pocket on the back of my upgraded seat. Most inflatable kayaks don't come with much storage space, but there are always at least a few things you need to take with you for a good-length paddle (i.e. water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, a first aid kit, etc.) Just note, the pouch isn't waterproof so make sure to throw anything more delicate into a dry bag first. 

Is the Sea Eagle 380x kayak worth it?

The Sea Eagle 380x kayak is great for two main reasons. First, it checks the portability/transportability box for anyone who needs to store a boat in a closet, under the bed, in the corner of an apartment, etc., and come game day, easily get it to the water. Secondly, once it's all set up, this becomes an excellent, solo or tandem, general-use kayak. 

If you want something that is stable and can provide a good time on both flatwater and whitewater, then the 380x will be right up your alley. On the other hand, if you want something fast on flatwater, or proficient on whitewater, then you will probably want to look for something more specifically suited to those tasks. Once again, the Sea Eagle 380x doesn't do anything exceptionally well, it does a lot of things pretty well. If that tickles your fancy, then you will get great value out of this versatile package.
